Tales of Roelum Episode 14

Episode 14

Salem

I roll my eyes at Paula, figures, her solution to everything is violence; it is a miracle she’s still alive.

“No Paula, no, no killing.” I feel first whip, Paula gives the guard a death glare.

It hurts but not as bad as it sounds, I stay still and take all 50 strokes, there are whispers around me as the wives and the harem murmur, If I have to guess, I’d say its my lack of tears or screams.

The guard finishes and I am let go, Katerina and Vivian look at me in shock, I wink at them. The guard looks like he is about to pass out.

“Usually people faint before the 10th stroke and he stops, I think this is the first time he has ever made it to the end of the ordered stroke.” Katerina gives me a look of awe as she passes my cloak to Paula.

“I am glad to be your first, what is your name?” I ask the guard who just whipped me.

“…My …your.. ” he stutters.

“It’s okay, I know you were under orders, relax and tell me your name.”

“It is Micah your highness” he bows.

“Well Micah, this is also a first for me, usually when a man tries to hurt me, I do worse. Count yourself lucky, but the next time you whip me, orders or not; I will have your neck as a gift to my friend here, have I made myself clear?” I ensure the Queen’s maids hear my threat to Micah.

If I wasn’t pissed before, I am now. I stand with as much grace one can after being whipped like a child and walk with Paula following behind me. I bow to the rest of the harem and make my way back to the quarters.

I am on my bed with Paula applying medicine to my cuts. I hear Paula sigh.

“Again, No you can’t kill Micah, you can’t kill Kat and you cannot kill the Queen so please stop whining and ouuuuccccchhhhhhhhh” I scream after she roughly applies the herb.

“I thought it didn’t hurt” she smirks.

“Of course it did, I was just bluffing, should I try it on you? ” I groan.

She laughs; ” What do you plan to do? We can’t go on like this, you need an ally, if we can’t get from your husband, then let’s try the King. I don’t think he will stand for this kind of treatment.”

“I can’t depend on other people for my safety Paula, and I am not prepared to beg her. The Prince is confused as to what to do. As much as I hate it, I understand him. I killed his brother yet I am his wife, he is attracted to me and he hates himself for it. It is fun to watch usually but now with my butt at stake, I can’t wait for him to come to a decision as to what to do about me. Paula find every information you can get in the palace, get as much dirt you can on the Queen.” I wince in pain.

“Oh… You want to play dirty, I thought you liked the high road.” paula mocks me.

“Well….. The low road looks good right now, shut up and…” The Prince comes into my chambers, I have my chest on the bed. My back completely exposed.

Paula bows and leaves the room.

“I would have greeted you but I am a little bit preoccupied, so to what do I owe this visit?” I don’t bother to adjust.

“Why did you have to do this? You are smart to know exactly what she wants, play her game and she will leave you alone.” He brings out some concoction, it smells good but I eye it with suspicion.

“If I wanted to kill you, I wouldn’t use poison, I got this from the royal doctor, I wanted him to treat you but looking at you this way, I am not comfortable with letting another man touch you.” He gently traces the marks with his fingers while applying the medicine.

It feels cool at first then hot, I moan in pain. He pauses.

“Well, don’t stop now; what is that? It feels divine” I sigh out loudly.

“Make me understand, why did you take all 50 whips, the Queen might be cruel but she is not sadistic, why didn’t you beg for mercy? It obviously hurt more than you let on.” I feel him trace an old scar.

“If I had begged for mercy today, tomorrow she could do worse; she is not as soft as you think, her eyes are cold and cruel, the only language she understands is pride and determination. If I want her to respect me, I can’t let her know she gets to me. And you know, I like to leave people speechless.” I close my eyes in pleasure and try not to moan, I don’t want him to stop.

“Do you care about your life at all? Why play these games? Why put your life at stake? I want to understand you. Help me” He says so softly that I could barely hear him.

“I don’t know any other way, it’s all I’ve known, I either go big or don’t go at all. I risked my life to tell you because you are my husband, you are bound to hear it one day or the other, I’d rather I told you than you finding out yourself.” I feel self conscious for a moment.

He moves my hair to the side ; “so you don’t lie or you just don’t lie to me.”

“I don’t like to lie, I don’t want to lie to you, I can be a good liar. I just don’t like the way it makes me feel.” I whisper softly.

“Did my brother really do those things? I looked up to him since I was a child, we were half siblings but he never treated me like a threat or less. I know he had a mean streak but I didn’t think he would stoop that low.” He massages my neck.

I hold him and turn to look at him. “You believe me?”

“I had Victor check his movements and he told me really awful things, not just to you but other women and small boys. I suspected he had a liking to the masculine gender, but I didn’t think he was so bitter that he was bent on punishing an entire gender because of who he was.” He presses my head to the bed and keeps applying the medicine.

“I am not saying I completely believe you, but I am saying there could be some truth to it and since you have given me a chance, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. This won’t make your injuries scar. I think you have more than enough on your body.” He drops the rest of the medicine on the bed as he stands.

“The royal doctor will send some herbs to Paula, Victor will bring food from the Pavillaire for you. Have a good rest Salem.” He stops by the door and looks back “I am sorry about Elena, that was improper of me.”

I am stunned to silence at what just happened, I didn’t expect this and I feel things I don’t understand. My heart keeps beating fast and I wonder how sick I am.
